Thank you for the best holiday. Your place is just perfect. I will be leaving you a fantastic review! We loved it. You , Pam and Carl have all been so friendly and helpful. We most definitely will be returning. What an amazing place you have. One of the best self catering holidays we have ever had Thank s again All the best. Take care of yourselves.

Kind regards Caroline & Simon

What a lovely holiday, thank you for providing excellent accommodation in such a lovely part of Cornwall. The apartment had everything we needed. We stayed in the Anchorage and my Parents stayed in Sea Whisper. Both apartments were clean and fresh and the beds were very comfortable. Kitchens were compact but we had enough room to prepare meals. The garden was a lovely extra and we ate out in it and had BBQ’s most evenings.

Probably the best part was the swimming pool which was a decent size, lovely temperature and undercover if it rained. The pool was very clean and floats were provided for the children to play in. The play area and sandpit were also excellent for the kids to play in. The location is excellent, Portreath is a lovely seaside place with a good bakery, shop and a decent fish and chip shop. The Bassett Arms was a nice pub and the food looked good there but we never stayed for a meal. The beach is brilliant, lots of caves to explore when the tide goes out and lovely soft sand. We would come again and stay at the apartments, it was very relaxing and Pam and Richard were very welcoming and friendly

We stayed at short notice (booked on Sunday arrived Monday) in July due to a change in our original holiday plans. We stayed in Badgers Watch, which had everything we needed, overlooks the gardens at the back and is very quiet. Our daughter loved the pool, the sliding roof is a great idea as the pool can be enjoyed in all weather.

It is a short flat walk to the town and beach and a short drive to our favourite beach at Gwithian. Also a good base to explore this part of Cornwall, we spent time in St Ives, kynance cove and Charlestown. Pamela & Richard were perfect hosts, very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay.

We have just returned from a week at Bassets Acre and had a wonderful week, Pam and Richard are perfect host very friendly and helpful. The apartment was spotlessly clean with everything we needed including peace and quiet. We stayed in The Anchorage and it had a beautiful four poster bed that was so comfortable.

The apartments are ideally situated for visiting all the beautiful places in Cornwall. The swimming pool and hot tub were amazing. We would definitely like to return. There are so many beautiful beaches around and we visited a good lot of them.

Have just returned from a 5 night stay at this lovely place. We stayed in Basset’s Lookout, which provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. For the first 3 days, it was just myself with my 14 year old and 16 year old (later joined by husband). We were spoilt with plenty of room so as well as using the appartment for a base to explore, we also enjoyed spending time there. The hot tub, swimming pool and games room were something that we all looked forward to coming back to after our daytime activities.

Pam and Richard are lovely, warm people who made us feel as if we were at home and offered useful advice about local facilities and also activities further afield. Also welcome was guidance about places to avoid (St. Ive’s etc.) due to them being overcrowded and too busy at his time of year. Pam even went to the trouble of providing leaflets and brochures about things that we may enjoy doing, which were ready for us in our appartment. Portreath is a lovely part of Cornwall, which is not over touristy and has a lovely sandy beach only a few minutes walk from the appartment.

There is a shop which hires out bikes for a good price, a surf shop where you can book watersports and rent or buy wetsuits and other equipment, a cafe, bakery, Chinese takeaway, small supermarket and a couple of nice pubs. Basically, everything you may need and again all a few minutes walk away. During our time, we went for a two hour horse riding session up to Carn Brea, visited Falmouth, Truro, St. Ive’s (wish we had listened to Pam as she was right when she said it was very overcrowded). Also, went Quad biking and wakeboarding nearby, spent time on some lovely beaches, including the local one, took out some paddleboards and also visited St. Austell, Charlestown and Carlyon Bay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely like to come back again. Thanks Pam and Richard for making sure we had a great holiday!

We have just returned from a week in Bassets Acre( week of 21st June), this yet again has enabled us to re-set the “stress-o-meters”. We stayed in “Squirrels View”. The apartment was great, spotlessly clean and very comfortable.
The welcome from Pam and Rich(who are really tremendous hosts) was as welcoming today as it was 23 years ago. We cannot speak highly enough about our times at Bassets Acre.

The pool was a lovely 30 degrees, the sunsets to die for with BBQ’s a plenty up on the top decking area with a grandstand view of the superb sunsets over the beach.

I have read some reviews knocking the WiFi and I can state that Pam and Richard have recently had all new systems fitted to the building to improve the connectivity. I experienced no problems at all in getting wifi in the apartment on my ipad. Phone signal in Portreath is fine for EE/Orange but a little patchy for Voda.

The gardens are a sea of tranquility with stunning views. There’s the playhouse for the kids, hot tub for the adults and pool for all to enjoy. You will find that you will meet only nice people at Bassets Acre, in a safe friendly and peaceful environment. Space to spend time with the family and relax.

The nearby beach is (300 metres away) excellent, local shops, Atlantic Cafe overlooking the beach and two pubs in the village.(would recommend the Portreath Arms).

We have already booked to return next year to include our grown up children and our grandchild. We can’t wait.

This has been my second time at Bassets Acre and I wouldn’t look for any other self catering accommodation in Cornwall. As other reviewers have said, the owners Pam and Richard are among the friendliest hosts you’ll meet anywhere – nothing is too much trouble for them – and the accommodation/location are perfect for families.

The big garden at the front has a covered heated swimming pool, play area, ping pong table, two sun lounger areas, barbecues and a covered deck area where families sometimes eat in the evening. It’s never crowded even if all the apartments are full – there’s a full acre of garden out the back leading up to another decking area with tables, chairs, a barbecue and gorgeous views over Portreath beach five minutes’ walk away (have a barbecue up here and watch the sunset). The front garden also has an indoor hot tub which is bliss to soak in after a dip in the sea.

At the front of the house is an indoors games room with pool table, arcade games and dozens of books and DVDs; there are also plenty of tourism leaflets with info on things to see and do in Cornwall, but if you have something specific in mind, ask Pam and Richard for recommendations as they’ve lived in Cornwall for decades and know all the best spots.

Portreath beach is just down the road and is family friendly and lifeguarded – from here you can get onto the South West Coast Path for walks to Porthowan and Godrevy (if you do the Godrevy walk, stop off at the Hells Mouth café halfway along for its ice cream). Also in the area are a Chinese takeaway, Costcutter with post office and a good selection of wine and Cornish cider, a bakery and the Bassets Acre pub – this has a really good selection of food at reasonable prices. It’s about four miles to Redruth, six to Truro and there are loads of lovely beaches all along the nearby coast – we went to Porthkidney Sands and pulled mussels off the rocks to fry up on the beach.

We stayed in the Garden Springs apartment which had a main double room with four poster bed, twin room and kids’ room with bunk beds and a single bed – all the rooms had wardrobes. The kitchen was fully equipped with pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, glasses, microwave, big fridge, plenty of storage space etc and there’s a separate dining room. The bathroom was spacious and had a bath as well as shower with good water quality and heat. The living room was very comfy with two big sofas, an armchair and TV with DVD player and Freeview. There are more seats out in the veranda where we could hear the stream running underneath.

We had no problem getting wifi anywhere in the apartment and everything was spotless.

I’d highly recommend Bassets Acre – it can be difficult trying to pick accommodation in Cornwall because of the variety of choice, but this is a first class place with exceptional hosts who go out of their way to make your holiday special.

We regularly stay at Basset Acres and Pam and Richard are just lovely. They could not be more welcoming and friendly. The apartments are comfortable and well equipped. It is situated only short stroll from everything you could need the bakers, TIdeline cafe and the Basset arms pub all of which off smashing food, and the beach to walk it all off.

The pool and garden make this the perfect family holiday spot in the summer and the games rooms curbs boredom in the autumn. Definitely worth a trip.

Lovely self catering accommodation, homely and relaxing. Set 5mins walk from beach, quiet and with the added option of using grounds of accomadation. Lovely gardens, pool, hot tub, although not used during visit as we were so busy. Pam and Richard were lovely ☺, made us very welcome. Ideal base for travelling south Cornwall. Apartment clean, comfy.

Portreath has a bakery, local shop and a couple of pubs. Lovely setting, main supermarket in Redruth 15 mins drive. Ideal base for couples families, walkers, everyone
Would highly recommend!

Lovely couple, me and my girlfriend felt really welcome on our first holiday away together. My car broke down and they were very helpful and made sure we were okay whilst making sure the rooms were ready for the next people. Ideal for a break away. The rooms were tidy and clean.

Fully functioning kitchen space which is also easy to use. Open planned rooms, loads of space so no one was in the way. The games room which is ideal for children or rainy days, along with the pool which is warm and covered. Television in the main sitting room. The apartments have beautiful views of the landscape and beaches. The beach is only a few minutes walk along with the local takeaway shops. For us being the younger generation it was a great experience and looking forward to coming again next year.

This is our 2nd year staying at Bassets Acre, we have a young son who is now 22 months and we all love it, its fantastic having an outdoor (covered) swimming pool, children’s play area and sandpit plus lots and lots of toys!!!

The area is a great base for traveling to nearby attractions and we loved going to Lappa Valley Railway and Newquay Zoo as well as the beautiful sandy beach which is a 2 minute walk from the apartments.

Pam and Richard are fantastic hosts and have the perfect balance of professional and personal approach.

I am sure we will be coming back again next year as it is perfect for us at the moment and a perfect base for exploring Cornwall. A day trip to St Ive’s is already on the cards!!
